Deconstruction planning

To help divert waste from landfills, Hennepin County has grants available for up to $5,000 to deconstruct residential buildings.

Property owners and developers are eligible to apply.

Deconstruction is the opposite of construction. It’s the “unbuilding” of a structure piece by piece. Deconstruction uses mostly hand tools to remove and preserve building materials for future reuse. Demolition, in contrast, uses equipment like excavators to tear down buildings. Learn more about the grants, including eligibility and requirements, at hennepin.us/Deconstruction.
