Sustainable Eden Prairie is an ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources our community enjoys.

Building upon the success of the 20-40-15 initiative, the City is leading by example and providing a foundation for residents and businesses to carry out sustainable practices in four areas — energy, landscape, waste and water.

Salt used on roads and walkways pollutes local lakes, streams and wetlands, which negatively affects water quality.

You can help protect Eden Prairie’s water resources by decreasing your salt usage. Start by shoveling well and if you need salt, scatter it widely. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, salt will not work, so use sand instead. Finally, collect any undissolved salt and store it in an air-tight container for reuse.
