The Eden Prairie Police Department is giving away free gun locks courtesy of two gun safety organizations committed to keeping guns out of the hands of children: Project Child Safe and Be SMART.

Project Child Safe is a program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and has been in existence since 1999. Since its inception, the organization has distributed more than 40-million firearm safety kits that include a gun lock and safety brochure.

Be SMART is a program of Everytown for Gun Safety that was launched to raise awareness that secure gun storage can save children’s lives. Be SMART donated gunlocks to the EPPD they received through the State of Minnesota’s Safe and Secure program.

Gunlocks are available at the EPPD’s day lobby at 8080 Mitchell Road, Monday–Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
