On August 24, 2023, 11-year-old DJ Daniel of Houston, TX was honorarily sworn in as a police officer in Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and St. Louis Park. DJ is battling terminal brain and spine cancer and has made it his mission to become an honorary police officer in as many departments as possible. After this ceremony, DJ is an official member of 792 departments.

Our five communities worked together to collectively host DJ and his family in the southwest metro for three days which included a joint swearing-in ceremony, tours of each department, ride-alongs with officers, police equipment demonstrations, a stay at the Mall of America and a fishing trip with officers.  

The Crime Prevention Funds of our respective cities along with several metro area businesses helped fund DJ’s visit.
