Meet the New Records Supervisor!

On April 20, 2024, Alyssa Benkowski was promoted to Records Supervisor after serving as a Records Specialist for the EPPD since 2018.

Alyssa earned a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies in 2012 and worked as a legal administrative assistant for approximately eight years before joining the EPPD. During her tenure with us, Alyssa has also served as the Investigations Support Specialist, working directly with the Investigations Division on search warrants and human trafficking operations. Alyssa has also been an active member of various professional organizations, including the State Suspense User Group, MN-LEAP (Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals), MN Data Practices Feedback Group and the Focus on Records (F.O.R.) User Group.

The Records Unit Alyssa supervises is comprised of three records specialists, one evidence specialist and two front desk support services team members. The Records Unit’s mission is to support and promote the goals and objectives of the City of Eden Prairie and the Police Department. The front desk support services staff receives and routes calls made to the department’s non-emergency phone number, and completes projects from various divisions in the Police Department. Collectively, they average approximately 1,400 calls per month.

The records specialists process, maintain, validate and submit data as mandated by state and federal guidelines, and respond to data requests in compliance with the Minnesota Data Practices Act. On average, the team processes approximately 430 new cases and about 105 data requests per month.

The unit’s evidence specialist processes, indexes and organizes evidence, and works to locate individuals whose property was found and turned into the Police Department to facilitate the return of their property. The evidence specialist is responsible for approximately 16,275 items in our property room.
