This week marks the second anniversary of 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, a nationwide resource that anyone can call, text or chat for confidential mental health support.

Crisis counselors are trained to address mental health emergencies like depression, anxiety, suicide ideation and substance use disorders. It is available by phone, text or chat.

The 988 line has answered more than 10 million calls, texts or chats. In the past two years, 988 has added tailored lines to help groups including Spanish speakers, military veterans and active service members, and LGBTQ+ youth and young adults. A video-line has also been added for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Last year in Eden Prairie, the Police Department responded to 88 suicide attempt/threat calls and 285 person in crisis calls.

If you or someone you know is in mental health crisis, do not hesitate to call 911 or 988.
