Scam Alert!

Post Date:04/16/2025 10:01 a.m.

scam-alert

The EPPD has recently been made aware that scammers have been impersonating Eden Prairie Police employees in an effort to extort money out of victims.

The scam typically takes place during a phone call and the victim is told that they have an outstanding warrant or fine and are then asked to pay for it through a specific transaction like gift cards or cryptocurrency. The callers are using the name of an actual Eden Prairie police officer (for example, Chief Matt Sackett) and the caller ID shows our actual phone number.

To date we are not aware of anyone who has lost money on one of these scams, however we would like to remind the community that no law enforcement agency will ask you for money, gift cards or cryptocurrency. If you receive a call that seems like a scam, the best thing to do is hang up immediately — do not engage and do not send money or gift cards.

If you believe you are the victim of a scam, please contact the EPPD at 952-949-6200.
