The Heritage Preservation Award was presented at the May 6 City Council meeting.

The goal of the Heritage Preservation Award is to recognize an individual, family or business who has made an outstanding contribution to the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and use of Eden Prairie's heritage resources. This year the Heritage Preservation Commission selected one award-winner: Eden Prairie Schools.

Eden Prairie Schools has demonstrated a strong commitment to historic preservation, particularly through its community-centered 100th-anniversary celebration and ongoing stewardship of the Historic Gym in partnership with the Eden Prairie Historical Society.

Throughout the centennial, the district made its rich educational history accessible and engaging through storytelling, historical displays and digital archives, with the Historic Gym serving as a central focus. The district expanded public access to this landmark, inviting thousands of residents to connect with its significance through a variety of events. These included a historic artifacts gallery, tours that drew over 500 attendees, a Family Fun Day featuring a choir concert, individual tours and a Citywide Prom attended by 200 guests. To further highlight the gym's importance, the district integrated new interior branding, a commemorative plaque and exterior historic signage. These initiatives not only maintain the space but actively use and celebrate it, reinforcing its role as a living piece of Eden Prairie's educational heritage.

By preserving this cherished landmark and fostering deeper appreciation for local history through community engagement, Eden Prairie Schools strengthens the City's cultural identity, ensuring its past remains an active and celebrated part of its present and future.

Nominations for the Heritage Preservation Award can be made by individuals on behalf of themselves or others. Usually one award is given each year. For the next award process, nomination materials will be available in early 2026.
