Sustainable Eden Prairie is an ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources our community enjoys.

Building upon the success of the 20-40-15 initiative, the City is leading by example and providing a foundation for residents and businesses to carry out sustainable practices in four areas — energy, landscape, waste and water.

New Rooftop Solar Array Powers EP Fire Station #1

The project was partially funded by a grant from the Solar on Public Buildings program.
Post Date:07/16/2025

Eden Prairie's Fire Station #1 is now running on solar energy, thanks to a grant from the State of Minnesota’s Solar on Public Buildings (SPB) program.

“We’re proud to be among the first local governments in Minnesota to install solar panels through the SPB program,” said Mayor Ron Case. “By investing in solar power, we’re not only cutting long-term energy costs, we’re also fulfilling our responsibility to create a more sustainable future for Eden Prairie.”

The Minnesota Legislature established the SPB grant program in 2023 to stimulate the installation of solar energy systems on public buildings. The program helps public agencies reduce energy costs and decrease electricity-based greenhouse gas emissions.

Eden Prairie is one of 18 local governments across the state to receive grants from program. Later this summer, a second SPB grant-funded solar array will be installed on the Eden Prairie Liquor rooftop at 8018 Den Road.
