The Eden Prairie Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance following a serious hit-and-run crash that injured a mother and her children Thursday evening.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving pedestrians at the intersection of Mitchell Road and Chestnut Drive. A 27-year-old mother and her four young children were crossing Mitchell Road in the crosswalk when they were struck by a vehicle traveling north.
The mother and two of the children were on foot. She was also pulling a wagon that carried her other two children. The vehicle struck the mother and the children in the wagon, then fled the scene.
One child sustained critical injuries and is currently being treated at Hennepin Healthcare. The mother and a second child were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released. The two children who were walking were not physically injured.
“Our hearts are with this family during what is an unimaginably difficult time,” said Sgt. Bryan Dean.
At this time, the only vehicle description available is the color — white. The exact style, make and model remain unknown. Debris recovered at the scene includes a portion of the driver’s side mirror. Police are actively working to gather additional details to identify the vehicle involved.
Anyone who may have seen a white vehicle traveling north on Mitchell Road around 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 21, or anyone with dashcam or home surveillance footage that might help identify the vehicle, should come forward.
“Even the smallest detail could help identify the driver and deliver the justice this family deserves,” said Dean. “To the person responsible, or anyone who knows them — do the right thing. Come forward.”
A monetary reward is being offered through the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for this incident.
How to Submit a Tip
A dedicated team of investigators is working around the clock on this case, alongside investigators from the Minnesota State Patrol and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
