Earlier this month, Nely Guerra-Rivera started with the EPPD as a Cadet.
Cadets assist officers by responding to a variety of community needs including animal control, enforcement of parking violations and other ordinances, performing fingerprinting services, providing traffic direction and assisting officers with other service-related duties.
Cadet Guerra-Rivera graduated from Prior Lake High School and is attending Normandale Community College to pursue an associate’s degree in law enforcement. Prior to coming to Eden Prairie, she worked as a community service officer for the City of South St. Paul for three years.
During their program, cadets receive learning opportunities and inter-departmental mentorship with the goal of being promoted to police officer at the conclusion of their assignment.
As part of the program, the City pays the cadet’s tuition for a two-year degree in law enforcement or the last two years of a four-year degree in law enforcement. The duration of the assignment is 2-4 years, depending on the length of the education sought by the cadet.
Welcome Cadet Guerra-Rivera!
