AED Outdoor Installation

A new public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been installed in Miller Park along the north side of the sport courts. It's available at all hours of the day year-round and designed to guide anyone through using it in an emergency. This is the first of several outdoor AEDs planned to be installed in Eden Prairie parks.

New Badminton Courts at Round Lake

This week three new badminton courts opened at Round Lake Park between the outdoor hockey rinks. If you don't have badminton equipment, everything you need is available to check out for free at the Community Center. Learn more at edenprairie.org/ParkAndPlay.

Planning Commission Public Hearings

There are two public hearings on the Monday, Sept. 22 Planning Commission meeting agenda for the following proposals:

Valley View Hotel Development — The applicant is requesting approvals necessary to subdivide the property and construct a 157-room hotel and an 8,000 square feet restaurant, including a comprehensive plan amendment (from Parks and Open Space, Medium Density Residential and Office to Park and Open Space and Commercial) and a zoning map change (from Rural to Parks and Open Space and C-Regional Service). Waivers are requested for building height, parking lot setback, shoreland setback and shore impact zone vegetative removal.

Roers Eden Prairie Apartments — The applicant is requesting approvals necessary to construct a new 195-unit market-rate apartment building, including a Comprehensive Plan Amendment (from Industrial Flex Tech to Medium High Density Residential) and a zoning map amendment (from Office to RM-2.5). Waivers are requested for density, building height, front yard setback and parking. The project will conform with the City’s Building Sustainability Standards and Inclusionary Housing requirements.

PROP Open House

PROP Food Shelf is hosting an Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at its 14700 Martin Drive facility. Tour PROP's remodeled Food Mart and visit with staff and service partners to learn how PROP supports the community and how you can be part of PROP's mission.

POUND for PROP

From 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, enjoy a free POUND class with Community Center fitness instructors at the Staring Lake Amphitheatre (14800 Pioneer Trail). Help support PROP by bringing a non-perishable food item. No registration is necessary.

Dispose Hazardous Materials Responsibly

Hennepin County operates drop-off facilities in Bloomington (1400 W. 96th St.) and Brooklyn Park (8100 Jefferson Highway) for hazardous waste and problem materials. Eden Prairie residents may also bring hazardous waste to the Environmental Center in Chaska (116 Peavey Circle). Learn more at edenprairie.org/SolidWaste.

The City offers two interactive online maps to make it easy to find information about development projects in Eden Prairie. Wings of the North Sweepstakes

Tickets for the annual Wings of the North Sweepstakes are now available. Proceeds go toward securing a permanent home for the air museum. The grand prize drawing for a 1950 Aeronca 7EC Champion is Saturday, Sept. 27. Learn more and purchase tickets at wotn.org/sweepstakes.

Facilities Updates

  • Construction for the Police Department/City Center remodeling project continues with site work, new utility connections and other early-phase improvements on the building.
  • A facility assessment has been completed at City buildings to guide long-term maintenance planning and future capital projects.
  • Annual recreation pool maintenance was conducted earlier this month which revealed an equipment issue that will keep the pool closed for repairs through Friday, Sept. 26; the hot tub is not affected and is available for use.
  • Construction documents are being prepared for the Dorenkemper House as the City considers reuse of the historic home.
