This week the department welcomed George Rerat as our newest cadet.
Cadets assist officers by responding to a variety of community needs including animal control, enforcement of parking violations and other ordinances, performing fingerprinting services, providing traffic direction and assisting officers with other service-related duties.
Cadet Rerat graduated from Edina High School and is attending Minnesota State University, Mankato to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. While in high school, Cadet Rerat was a journalist for the school newspaper, a member of the robotics team and served as a lieutenant with the Edina/Eden Prairie Explorer program.
During their program, cadets receive learning opportunities and inter-departmental mentorship with the goal of being promoted to a police officer position at the conclusion of their assignment.
As part of the program, the City pays the cadet’s tuition for a two-year degree in law enforcement or the last two years of a four-year degree in law enforcement. The duration of the assignment is 2-4 years, depending on the length of the education sought by the cadet.
Welcome Cadet Rerat!
