Applewood Pointe, a 100-unit senior cooperative, was recognized for its outstanding resident-led commitment to sustainable living. Over the past two years, a dedicated group of residents has developed and implemented an organic recycling program that now includes 60 participating households. In addition, Applewood Pointe has established an organics recycling system for large group events and transitioned to the exclusive use of compostable paper products.
Buy Nothing Eden Prairie, a local Facebook group with nearly 5,000 members, promotes sustainable reuse of items — including furniture, clothing, kids’ gear, home goods and more — that might otherwise be thrown away. The group provides a platform to exchange items, free of charge, throughout the community. By giving items a second life, Buy Nothing Eden Prairie encourages mindful consumption and diverts waste from going to landfills. These efforts also reduce the environmental footprint associated with disposal and manufacturing.
Chris Adams is recognized for his commitment to sustainability within the construction industry. Through his remodeling work, he significantly reduces construction waste by prioritizing the salvage and reuse of materials — such as lamps, faucets, lumber and other fixtures — that would otherwise be sent to landfills. He further extends the life of these items through his family-run thrift store, where salvaged materials are resold and repurposed.
Winnebago Industries, headquartered in Eden Prairie, is recognized for its commitment to environmental stewardship. The company is an active volunteer partner, regularly supporting Friends of Eden Prairie Parks events and contributing funding for planting materials. Most recently, Winnebago team members helped plant more than 500 native woodland plants and shrubs in Miller Park.
This award program aligns with the City's Sustainable Eden Prairie initiative, an ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources our community enjoys.
