A new mosaic sculpture has been installed at the Senior Center.
The piece adds a permanent work of public art to the facility’s grounds and marks the completion of a project intended to recognize the tree that previously stood at the site.
Created by artist Daniela (Dani) Bianchini, the 6-foot sculpture was built with a steel core using a ferrecrete technique and is covered in hand-placed glass mosaics featuring flowers, birds and other nature-inspired designs.
According to the artist, each mosaic element was created to reflect the history and daily life surrounding the Senior Center.
"This sculpture stands in reverence, a tribute to the tree that once lived in this space. Its mosaic shimmers with echoes of nature — colorful flowers and birds — each fragment a delicate homage to the life that surrounds the Senior Center. Every tile tells a silent story, of every person who has passed through the Center, becoming part of its living memory."
The structure is anchored to a concrete pad with a steel base plate and includes a canopy formed from welded steel leaves. The leaves were powder-coated to provide long-term durability and are designed to allow sunlight to pass through the openings, casting patterned shadows on the ground throughout the day and across the winter snow.
