Snow Emergencies: What You Need to Know
As soon as snow accumulation reaches 2 inches or more, a Snow Emergency is in effect and it is illegal to park on City streets. During a Snow Emergency crews work to maintain safe and passable roadways throughout the storm and perform a full curb-to-curb cleanup when weather conditions allow. Do not park on City streets until they are plowed curb-to-curb. You can find Snow Emergency notices posted at edenprairiemn.gov/News and social media platforms. You can also subscribe to receive email and text notifications. Learn more at edenprairiemn.gov/Snow.
Flashing Yellow Arrow Indicators
The City’s Engineering Division recently upgraded two traffic signals along Prairie Center Drive by installing Flashing Yellow Arrow (FYA) indicators, which improve efficiency by allowing left turns when there are safe gaps in oncoming traffic. The upgrades were completed at Prairie Center Drive and Viking Drive, and Prairie Center Drive and Prairie Lakes Drive. Over the past several years, the City has added FYA indicators at five other intersections along this corridor as part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and traffic flow. All City-owned signals have been evaluated for FYA compatibility, and the City plans to continue retrofitting approximately two intersections per year over the next five years.
In addition, MnDOT, in partnership with the City and Hennepin County, is leading a signal optimization project for the entire ring-road system, including Prairie Center Drive and Valley View Road. The project will analyze existing traffic data and develop coordinated signal timing plans to improve travel efficiency and is expected to be completed in 2026.
