EPPD and EPFD Introduce New Mobile Command Center

Post Date:04/07/2026

The Eden Prairie Police and Fire Departments officially introduced a new Mobile Command Center (MCC) at a special event Tuesday, April 7.

Eden Prairie Mobile Command Center

The upgraded MCC replaces a smaller vehicle that had been in service for 24 years, and was officially placed into service March 11, 2026.

As the name suggests, it functions as a mobile command center, supporting response efforts during critical incidents, natural disasters, community events and regional emergencies.

In addition to serving Eden Prairie, the MCC is available to assist neighboring agencies — including Edina, Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minnetonka — during large-scale emergencies, strengthening regional collaboration and emergency response capabilities.

Features

Significantly larger than its predecessor, the new MCC includes several key enhancements:

  • Expanded meeting and workspace areas
  • Multiple dedicated workstation areas
  • Wireless sharing and streaming capabilities
  • Expandable electronics and communications closet to support emerging technologies
  • High-definition, 360-degree camera system

Funding

The total cost of the new unit was $1.2-million, with the majority of the funding — $963,000 — secured through a U.S. Department of Justice grant. The remaining balance was covered through the sale of the previous vehicle and City Capital Improvement Plan funds.

Former Rep. Dean Phillips, and Sens. Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar played key roles in securing the federal funding.

“We’re grateful to everyone who helped us obtain funding for this important regional resource,” said Police Chief Matt Sackett. “The MCC will enhance coordination and strengthen our ability to respond quickly and effectively to critical incidents and community needs — helping us better protect and serve Eden Prairie and our neighboring communities.”
