Mosquito Control Activity

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) began field season this week. Residents may see MMCD trucks, helicopters, drones and staff in neighborhoods, parks and near wetlands. MMCD Staff will be wearing bright yellow “Public Health Mosquito Control” safety vests when working outdoors. Learn more about mosquito control.

Yard Waste Site Opens Next Friday

The City's Yard Waste Site (9811 Flying Cloud Drive) opens for the season next Friday, April 24 and is available for use by Eden Prairie residents and businesses free of charge. The site is open seasonally Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hours of operation, guidelines for use and a list of accepted materials are available at edenprairiemn.gov/YardWaste.

Drug Take Back Day

Proper disposal of unused medication is important not only to prevent abuse, but to protect the environment. Stop by the back parking lot of the Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25 to take advantage of this free, convenient and responsible means of disposing prescription drugs.

Arbor Day Celebration

Celebrate Arbor Day with a walk around Staring Lake Park. Activities including a kids tree climb, hands-on art projects and tree trivia, plus free compost and seedlings, and bandanas for leashed dogs will be available while supplies last. This event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25. Learn more about the Arbor Day Celebration.

Braver Angels Event

Braver Angels is a volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide. The organization is presenting an interactive session from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 20 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church (13600 Technology Drive) — led by Bill Doherty, Emeritus Professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota — to explore how to engage in respectful dialogue, find common ground without compromising values and strengthen relationships despite disagreements. Community Development Updates

  • Housing Rehabilitation (Rehab), First-Time Homebuyer (FTHB) and First-Generation Homebuyer (FGHB) loans opened for applications in February. So far this year, four Rehab loans, two FTHB loans and one FGHB loan have been allocated. There are pending applications for both FTHB and FGHB loans that are expected to be approved this week. Loan limits are up to $25,000 for rehab loans, $35,000 for FTHB loans and $40,000 for FGHB loans. All three programs currently have waitlists.
  • Assessing Supervisor Alex Oldefendt successfully achieved Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor licensure, the highest level of licensure with the Minnesota State Board of Assessors.

Fire Department Updates

  • A team of firefighters is meeting soon with Pierce Fire Truck manufacturer to conduct a final pre-build meeting for a new fire engine that will arrive in Eden Prairie in July, and replace a 20-year old engine.
  • The Fire Department has responded to over 800 calls for service in the first quarter of the year. Approximately 60% of these calls are medical related and 40% are fire related.
  • New full-time staff are currently in a training academy to enhance skills and focus on new job areas.

  • The Heritage Preservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday, April 20 in the City Center Heritage Rooms
  • The City Council meets for its workshop at 5:30 p.m. in the Heritage Rooms prior to its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 in the Council Chambers
  • The Monday, April 27 Planning Commission meeting is canceled
