At last night’s City Council meeting, two people received Letters of Recognition from Police Chief Matt Sackett and Fire Chief Scott Gerber for saving the life of man at Life Time on Oct. 25, 2025.
That evening, Tim Thai collapsed while playing on a pickleball court. Sue Bayer and Olivia Chase, who were playing nearby, immediately jumped into action. They grabbed an AED and placed the pads on Tim's chest. Sue performed mouth-to-mouth CPR while Olivia provided chest compressions. They both assisted Officer Eric Bromback who arrived minutes later. In total, Tim received five shocks from the AED before being transported to the hospital by paramedics.
After a significant hospital stay, Tim transitioned to a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery and moved back home in late February.
Both women used their medical backgrounds to save the life of a man they did not know. Their quick thinking and actions along with their ability to stay calm and rely on their medical training were instrumental in Tim’s recovery.
Earlier this year, Officer Bromback received a Heart Saver pin from the department for his work taking control of a high-stress scene and effectively coordinating bystanders while providing critical patient care. His expert first-responder skills and authoritative command presence were instrumental in stabilizing the patient.
Olivia was unable to attend the council meeting but Tim and his family were able to meet Sue and several of the first responders who were on the scene that day last night.
