New School Bus Stop-Arm Law in Effect

A new school bus stop-arm law is now effect which states when red flashing lights are activated, vehicles must stop at least 20 feet away from the school bus, regardless of whether the stop arm is extended or not. Previously the law required drivers to stop when both the red flashing lights were activated AND the stop arm was extended. For more EPPD updates, visit edenprairiemn.gov/EPPDNews.

Human Resources Updates

  • The Human Resources Division has been busy staffing several open positions. Since January, there have been 24 candidates offered positions in a variety of roles, including full-time firefighter lieutenants, firefighter/FAOs (Fire Apparatus Operator), police officers, utility maintenance and Water Treatment Plant operators, and streets, finance and housing and community services employees. We are fortunate to have talented staff members ready for the next step in their careers which resulted in internal promotions for 11 of the 24 candidates.
  • Each year the City conducts a workers compensation renewal process. The City has a very robust risk and safety program, which has helped to minimize risk and keep workplace injuries to a minimum. Due to the positive efforts of these programs and our responsible employees, we received a rate reduction for the next renewal which occurs in summer 2026.
