Lawn Watering Schedule
This summer, please follow the City's lawn watering schedule to ensure there is enough water for all uses, including vital services such as fighting fires. If your address ends with an odd number, you can water on odd-numbered days of the month. If your address ends in an even number, you can water on even-numbered days of the month. No lawn watering is allowed between the hours of noon and 5 p.m., even if you have an exemption for new sod or landscaping. Minnesota River Bank Stabilization Project
The City is partnering with the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District (LMRWD) on a project to stabilize a 1,200-foot section of the Minnesota River south of Riverview Road, where erosion had been wearing away a steep river bluff along a sharp bend in the river. Some areas of the bluff were extremely steep and unstable, with parts of the riverbank eroding by as much as 3 feet each year. This erosion was sending excess sediment into the Minnesota River, which already faces water quality challenges.
The riverbank stabilization project will help prevent additional erosion and protect nearby bluff properties. The $5.8-million project is led by the LMRWD and funded through a combination of a $2.7-million State of Minnesota grant, a $400,000 contribution from the City and additional funding from the LMRWD. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Once complete, the project will reduce erosion, improve river stability and help protect water quality in the Minnesota River.
