City Council Meeting Award Presentations

There were two award presentations at the Aug. 18 City Council meeting:

• The Community Center aquatics program was recognized with the American Red Cross Training Services Recognition Award as a Top Training Provider in the nation for a fourth consecutive year. Criteria is not only based on quantity of aquatics training — ours is the top training facility in the Midwest and one of the top three in the country — but also on quality and participant satisfaction.
• The Minnesota Association of Government Communicators Northern Lights Awards recognize excellence in government communications across Minnesota, honoring work that demonstrates exceptional creativity, strategy, execution and measurable results in informing and engaging communities. The City received seven awards, including five first-place awards.

Planning Commission Public Hearing

There is one public hearing on the Monday, Aug. 24 Planning Commission Meeting agenda for the following proposal:

6633 Harlan Drive — The property owner is requesting a variance to permit the expansion of a deck 8 feet into the required front yard setback of 30 feet, creating a 22-feet front yard setback.

Recruiting EPPD Explorers

Recruitment is underway for the Edina/Eden Prairie Police Explorers program. There is an informational meeting for potential participants at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility in Edina. 2026 Pavement Management

Pavement resurfacing began in select neighborhoods across the City in June and is wrapping up next week with final pavement markings. Improvements to approximately 11 centerline miles of roadway included mill and overlay, mill and overlay with underseal, full-depth reclamation and full-depth reclamation with stabilization.

These annual improvements have helped the Public Works Department achieve a Citywide average pavement condition index (PCI) score of 81 out of 100, placing Eden Prairie's streets in the “Very Good” range and approaching “Excellent.”

Efforts are now underway to begin evaluating roads and treatment options for the 2027 pavement management project. Learn more about Public Works projects at edenprairiemn.gov/InfrastructureProjects.

Parks and Recreation Updates

• The new Homeward Hills playground and splash pad are completed and available for play
• Construction of the new Cedar Hills Bike Park is expected to be completed in September
• The basketball court at Edenvale Park will be reconstructed starting at the end of August, with construction lasting about a week
• The Outdoor Center is home to one of the state’s most impressive telescopes for viewing the night sky and offers monthly astronomy classes year-round, check one out at edenprairiemn.gov/Recreation

• The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24 in the Council Chambers
• There are no other City meetings scheduled the remainder of August
