Sustainable Eden Prairie is an ongoing effort focusing on education and implementation of sustainable practices to protect the environment and natural resources our community enjoys.

Building upon the success of the 20-40-15 initiative, the City is leading by example and providing a foundation for residents and businesses to carry out sustainable practices in four areas — energy, landscape, waste and water.

GreenStep Cities AwardThe City of Eden Prairie was recognized as part of the Minnesota GreenStep Cities program and for a second time received the “Step 5” award at the League of Minnesota Cities annual conference in June. Eden Prairie is one of only 10 other cities to accomplish Step 5 recognition, the highest level of achievement in the program.

Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a free, continuous improvement program to help cities achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life goals. The initiative focuses on 29 best practices related to cost savings, energy use reduction, resource conservation and encouragement of civic innovation. As one of 122 participating Minnesota cities and tribal nations, Eden Prairie is helping to lead the way in sustainability.

“Receiving this award for a second time is a great achievement for Eden Prairie,” said Mayor Nancy Tyra-Lukens. “By participating in the program, Eden Prairie and our peer cities are making Minnesota more resilient for the future while helping our communities thrive economically.”
