Clay

• MN Clay Co. glazes (cone 6) — clear, white, metallic green, rust red, royal blue, oil spill, purple, teal, beige and brown (included in clay price); glazes subject to change
• Canvas, measuring cup, rolling pin, whisk, large sponge, glaze clamp, putty knife, spray bottles, ruler, hair dryer, plastic bags, high density foam, chuck
• MN Clay Co. White and Red Stoneware, and Stoneware with Manganese (purchase required); clay types subject to change.
• Banding wheel, caliper, elevated trimming mold, grip clamp, scale

Glass

• Cold working-diamond pads, flex shaft, grinder, silicon carbide file
• Wood work board (12x12 inches), wood work board-corner framed (12x12 inches)

To participate in Open Studio, you must:

• Currently be enrolled in a class or be an approved Open Studio Member AND
• Be 16 years of age or older (minors require guardian consent)

Prerequisites

Must have completed at least one 6+ week Art Center class (or equivalent) in the medium in which they would like to work within the past two years.

If prerequisite is from another center, must complete [Re]Fresh 4-week class at the Art Center and be approved by instructor before obtaining Open Studio membership.

Maintenance

Members must take at least one Art Center 6+ week class in the medium in which they are working OR the [Re]Fresh 4-week class every two years to continue using Open Studio.

Members must adhere to Open Studio Policies listed here and in additional paperwork. Failure to do so may result in loss of membership.

Community

All users share space and equipment. All Open Studio hours depend on studio availability, and are uninstructed and subject to change.

Members must be respectful of staff and facility at all times and continued misuse may result in loss of membership. We are not able to fire pieces on-demand; please do not ask us to put your items in front of others. Continued requests may jeopardize membership. The Art Center does not fire works for makers who sell their art commercially.

All

• Personal items must fit on assigned shelf, nothing should be stored on the floor or other non-assigned spaces 
• Open Studio times are firm — do not arrive early and make sure to clean up to leave at the end of scheduled time 
• Art Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items, or items damaged during firing process; use of Open Studio is at your own risk.
• Members/students must check in each time they arrive for Open Studio and complete the check-in sheet in full
• Member shelves are cleared after expiration date of membership
• Members should never touch or operate kilns

Clay

• All clay must be purchased from the Art Center; clay in all forms (raw in bag, works in progress/greenware and bisque work), must always remain onsite at the Art Center if to be fired in center kilns
• Items are fired on a first-come, first-served basis, but classes have top priority to keep up with curriculum
• Work not properly made/glazed will be put on the “Oops Shelf” with a note for correction; if a member's work repeatedly ends up on the “Oops Shelf,” they may be required to take another course or attend an Advising Hours session
• All items and work areas must be clean before leaving 
• We fire to cone 6 in electric oxidation; any outside glazes must be approved for this type of firing before use 
• Glaze and bisque shelves may not be used for storage — any items left for longer than four weeks are disposed
• Each glaze and bisque shelf will have a specific discard date, work will be thrown away on the date listed
• Clay full-kiln firings must be paid for in advance

Glass

• Tools/equipment used for demos in class may not be available during Open Studio Hours; check with your instructor 
• To have Open Studio (non-class) work fired, complete a Firing Form at the front desk and pay fees in advance; work is fired on a first-come, first-served basis, but classes have top priority to keep up with curriculum
• Members must return glass kits to the front desk after use for inventory purposes
• All glass to be fired must be glued together and be glued to fire paper; the Art Center is not responsible for damaged items that do not follow this policy
• Members may use their own molds and are responsible for proper preparation with kiln wash; any damage from improper mold prep is not the Art Center's responsibility
• Glass firings must be paid for in advance
