City of Eden Prairie
Home MenuPolice Department and City Center Remodeling Project
The City is expanding and relocating the Police Department headquarters from the lower level of Eden Prairie City Center (8080 Mitchell Road) to the vacant west side of City Center.
The City offices and public meeting spaces currently located on the lower level of City Center will also be moved to the main level of City Center as part of the project.
The project area is approximately 112,000 square feet encompassing two levels, including roughly 27,000 square feet for a new Police Department garage in the lower level.
Construction began in spring 2025.
Demand for the Project
The Police Department has been in the basement of City Center for more than 30 years. Since then, the size of the department and its fleet has doubled.
The relocation will keep the department equipped with the latest public safety tools and technology, provide necessary space for current and future staff, and create indoor parking to protect the department's vehicle fleet from weather conditions.
Project Goals and Features
- Maintain and enhance the level of service the Police Department provides to the community
- Create a facility with a separate, prominent Police Department entrance that encourages interaction with the public and where the community feels welcome
- Incorporate innovative features to help the City achieve its sustainability goals
- Organize and enhance safety and security within detention and evidence intake, processing and storage areas
- Expand Police Department office space and training facilities
- Increase useful life of Police Department vehicle fleet with enclosed, heated storage
- Relocate City offices, public meeting rooms and Garden Room from current lower-level locations
- Establish dedicated Police Department/public safety vehicle entrance to City Center on Technology Drive to increase safety of employees and visitors
When the project is complete, the roughly 50,000 square feet on the east side of the building currently occupied by City facilities and the Police Department will be marketed for lease.
