• Your dog must be kept on a 6-foot, non-retractable leash (unless in a designated off-leash area)
• Pick up after your dog and toss pet waste in the garbage
• Keep your dog under control, even well-trained dogs must be leashed at all times

With or without your own dog, always get permission before approaching a new dog.

Tips for Greeting Dogs

• Allow dogs to sniff each other for only a few seconds
• Allow the dog to sniff your hand before you touch it
• If the dog seems comfortable, pet its chest or side instead of the face or head
• Give the dog space if it seems uncomfortable
• Avoid making the dog feel pressured by staring
• Keep enough distance in case the dog becomes aggressive so you can easily get away

The City maintains six off-leash dog exercise areas.

Before you visit an off-leash area, please make sure your dog is properly licensed in Eden Prairie, this includes resident and non-resident dogs.

All dogs 6 months and older living in Eden Prairie are required to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed with the City.

Dog licenses cost $20 for a two-year cycle that runs on a calendar year. Licenses purchased in the middle of the two-year cycle cost only $10.
