The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) enforces only state and local laws — not federal immigration laws.

Similar to all local law enforcement agencies across the country, the EPPD does not have the authority to enforce federal laws and is therefore prohibited from doing so.

This means:

• The EPPD is prohibited from asking about a person’s immigration status — this applies to everyone, including suspects, victims and witnesses.
• The EPPD is prohibited from providing information to anyone attempting to identify an immigration violation, including federal agents seeking assistance.
• The EPPD does not hold or detain a person solely for a federal immigration agency.
• The EPPD is not typically notified of federal operations.
• If protests or gatherings occur, the EPPD may respond only to ensure safety and protect everyone present.

The safety and wellbeing of Eden Prairie residents — no matter who they are or where they come from — is always the Police Department’s priority. Please do not hesitate to call 911 if you witness or are a victim of a crime.
