City Council

Eden Prairie is served by a mayor and four at-large City Council members who are each elected to four-year terms and have one equal vote when deciding an issue. City Council elections take place in even-numbered election years.

The Mayor and two at-large City Council member seats are on the 2026 General Election ballot, with terms running Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2030.

Campaigning for City Council

Eligibility

Candidates must be:

Eligible to vote in Minnesota
At least 21 years old upon assuming office
Not running for another office in the upcoming election
Eden Prairie resident at least 30 days before the general election

Candidates must also provide documentary proof of identity and residence in Eden Prairie at the time of filing. A current driver’s license or state ID card satisfies this requirement.

2026 City Council Candidate Filing Dates

Begins 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 14
Ends 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 28
Withdrawal deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, July 30

Prior to the filing period, candidate filing packets are available at the City Center during business hours and are required to be recorded with the City Clerk's office, along with the $5 filing fee.

Financial Reports

Campaign Finance Reports

City Council candidates must complete Campaign Financial Reports (PDF) when their campaign committees raise or spend more than $750. These are to be filed with the City Clerk's office.

Initial report is due within 14 days after receiving contributions or making disbursements of more than $750
Subsequent reports are due 10 days before and 30 days after the election, and each year by Jan. 31 until a final report is filed
Final report is due when all debts are settled and all assets are disposed of in excess of $100

Campaign Financial Report Certification of Filing

Every candidate must complete a Certification of Filing (PDF) within seven days of a general election in which their name is on the ballot. Even if an initial report was never required or filed, the certification must be completed.
