Celebrate Halloween Safely

Here are a few tips for trick-or-treaters to make Halloween as safe as possible:

  • When trick-or-treating outside, remember to carry a flashlight or put reflective tape on costumes.
  • Remind children to stay on sidewalks and cross at crosswalks.
  • Inspect candy wrappers when children return home and discard any candy with torn or damaged wrappers.
  • Use battery-operated candles or glow sticks inside jack-o-lanterns instead of candles with flames.

Drivers can keep trick-or-treaters safe by:

  • Stowing cell phones
  • Driving especially careful after dark
  • Not driving under the influence of any impairing substance.
