Eden Prairie, Minn. — At approximately 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, the Plymouth Police Department arrested 60-year-old Robert Allen Pfeifer of Minneapolis as he was burglarizing Fantastic Sam’s, located at 10100 6th Ave. N. in Plymouth.
The arrest was the result of a multijurisdictional investigation stemming from a string of burglaries that occurred between Oct. 31 and Dec. 4, 2014. Police believe Pfeifer may be responsible for more than 60 burglaries of businesses located in strip malls spanning five counties and 13 cities across the Twin Cities metro area.
“The primary target of the burglaries appears to be cash,” said Eden Prairie Police Sgt. Dave Becker. “However, in some instances electronics such as TVs and computers were also stolen.”
Sgt. Becker said in total Pfeifer stole more than $10,000 in cash, and in each of the burglaries he gained entry to the business by prying open a door.
After several overnight burglaries Dec. 1 in Eden Prairie, Pfeifer was identified as the suspect at a multijurisdictional meeting. Once he was located, police from several agencies conducted surveillance on Pfeifer until he was subsequently arrested in Plymouth.
Pfeifer is currently being held in the Hennepin County Jail on a Department of Corrections parole violation, and Eden Prairie Police expect to turn the case over to the Hennepin County Attorney for charging in the next week.
“Apprehending Mr. Pfeifer came about because of 16 law enforcement agencies working in cooperation,” said Sgt. Becker. “The collaboration and information-sharing that has occurred over the course of the investigation was essential in locating the suspect while he burglarized another business and making the arrest.”
The Eden Prairie Police Department mission is to protect and serve the community through active and professional engagement. The Department is committed to providing customized service to the community, exercising discretion and fairness in enforcement, building public trust and promoting the professional development of its members.
