Quality of Life Survey Results: Rating the PD

Post Date:03/26/2019

Police-FinalEvery other year, the City hires an outside firm to conduct a Quality of Life Survey of residents. City leaders, including those in the Police Department, use the survey results as a tool to gauge how well we’re doing our jobs and what areas we need to work on. The 2018 survey results are now available.

Here’s what we learned about how residents feel about safety and the EPPD:

  • 94% of respondents rated Police services as excellent or good.
  • 85% of respondents rated the Police Department’s Animal Control services as excellent or good.
  • When asked to rate potential problems in the community, 30% of respondents rated traffic/speeding as being a moderate, major or extreme problem — an increase of 3% over 2016 survey results.
  • Also, when asked to rate potential problems in the community, approximately one-quarter of respondents cited vandalism and property crimes, drugs and youth crimes as moderate, major or extreme problems.
  • Similar to past surveys, a great majority of residents reported feeling somewhat or very safe in their neighborhoods (94%), at the Eden Prairie Center mall (92%), in parks and open spaces (92%), on paths or walking trails (89%) and in retail parking lots (90%).
