Climate Action Plan

In March 2020, the Eden Prairie City Council approved a Climate Action Plan to help the community reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The goal is to reduce harmful carbon pollution responsible for the planet’s overheating and subsequent flooding, extreme heat and worsening air quality.

The plan outlines ways to cut carbon emissions in areas like transportation, waste, and home and business energy use, while also identifying strategies such as increasing the use of renewable energy.

To carry out the plan, strong partnerships are needed — with homeowners, businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, energy providers like Xcel and CenterPoint, and private companies developing new technologies.

The City has already made good progress on reducing carbon emissions in Eden Prairie. However, an ongoing and strategic push is needed to reach such an ambitious goal.
